Mayotte is a small island (374km2) in the Indian Ocean, located between Mozambique and Madagascar. Geographically, historically and culturally part of the independent Union of the Comoros it is politically considered as a french overseas territory. After having written about the issue of migration to Mayotte in my MA thesis I will now write a doctoral thesis about the construction of identities in a (post-)colonial context.
